Sea Island Junior Classic - 2010 2/13/2010 - 2/14/2010
Billy Shuman and Amelia Hill, both of Saint Simons Island, Georgia, claimed the Overall Male and Female titles at the 2010 SJGT Sea Island Junior Classic. The event was held on the par-72 Retreat Course at the Sea Island Golf Club in Saint Simons Island.
Shuman won the Male 16-19 Division with a first-round 74 and a final-round 73, which included eight-straight pars on holes 11-18. Billy finished the event with a 147 and a one-shot victory for his third career SJGT title. Dylan Freeman of Athens, Ga., finished second with a pair of 74s for a 148 total, while Thomasville, Ga., native Hinson Arwood took third with a 76-74—150.
Hill took the Female 15-19 Division with scores of 79 and 78 for a 157 total, for her ninth career SJGT win. Taylor Blair of Roswell finished second with an 80-82—162, while Sydney Conrad of Powder Springs had an 84-81—165 to finish third.
In the Male 14-15 Division, Parker Derby of Columbus, Ga., took the top spot are shooting 79-73—152. Buster Bruton of Dallas, Ga., was second with an 81-76—157. Ben Holm of Alpharetta and Tyler Young of Kennesaw finished tied for third with scores of 83-76—159 and 81-78—159, respectfully. Holm took the third-place trophy due to a scorecard playoff.
Hyo Eun Kim of Martinez, Ga., claimed her second SJGT win in a row after taking the Female 12-14 Division with an 82-78—160. Diane Lim of Norcross was second with an 83-79—162, while Isabella Skinner of Cumming took third with an 84-80—164.
The Male 12-13 Division was won by Tye Waller of Griffin, Ga., after he carded a 73-80—153. Roland Morris of Hickory, NC was second with a 79-77—156 and Matthew Beringer of Macon finished third with an 81-82—163.
